Service Controls Engineer (Data Center Cooling)

Location: Shakopee, Minnesota, United States; travel to job sites and factories up to 50% of the time.

What you will do

• Diagnose, troubleshoot, and perform root cause analysis for controls, automation, and software issues on data center cooling equipment.
• Review sequences of operation, identify logic discrepancies, and recommend or validate corrective changes.
• Troubleshoot BAS/DDC architectures, PLC programs, VFDs, sensors, instrumentation, field devices, and control networks.
• Support BACnet and Modbus communication troubleshooting, device integration, addressing, and system connectivity.
• Tune control loops, validate sensor accuracy, and document findings and corrective actions.
• Provide technical guidance to customers, commissioning, engineering, manufacturing, sales, and service leadership while minimizing customer impact.

Requirements

• Engineering degree with two years of direct field experience, or four years of equivalent experience in HVAC, controls, building automation, or mission-critical cooling systems.
• Knowledge of control theory, automatic temperature controls, BAS, DDC controllers, PLCs, VFDs, and related building subsystems.
• Experience troubleshooting controls hardware and software, device communications, network integration, sensors, instrumentation, and system-level control architectures.
• Ability to interpret sequences of operation, blueprints, schematics, control drawings, plans, and manuals.
• Strong analytical, documentation, customer service, and professional communication skills, with the ability to work independently and across cross-functional teams.
• Ability to travel up to 50% to job sites and factories.

Nice to have

• Four or more years of experience with controls systems in mission-critical HVAC or data center cooling environments.
• Experience with Johnson Controls, Siemens, Honeywell, Schneider Electric, Trane Controls, Distech, Automated Logic, or similar BAS platforms.
• PLC programming, VFD commissioning, control-loop tuning, sensor validation, and software or logic testing experience.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint and the ability to present to data center clients.
