Bioinformatics Software Engineer (Python/Cloud)

Location: Boston, MA, United States; hybrid work with 2–3 days onsite per week

Salary: $112,000–$132,100 per year

What you will do

• Build software features for cloud-based bioinformatics platforms and AI-enabled data products.
• Develop data models integrating clinical, genomic, and biomedical data.
• Enable researchers to manage molecular records, launch and monitor containerized workflows, and visualize analysis results.
• Write unit, integration, and end-to-end test suites, technical documentation, and maintain existing software.
• Provide technical oversight, lead code reviews and technical discussions, and evaluate technologies for project use.
• Define product requirements, collaborate with stakeholders and vendors, and report project status.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field; a master’s degree may substitute for experience.
• At least five years of experience; experience may substitute for the degree requirement.
• Advanced proficiency in a modern programming language such as Python, JavaScript, or Java.
• Strong knowledge of data structures, algorithms, software engineering practices, source control, build processes, testing, and operations.
• Ability to lead development of complete applications or large components, improve deployment processes, and lead technical discussions.
• Proficiency in full-stack programming across areas such as front-end, back-end, cloud, or high-performance computing.

Nice to have

• Experience with AWS, Databricks, or Snowflake.
• Familiarity with Git-based development, Agile practices, and bioinformatics workflow tools such as Cromwell or Nextflow.
• Experience with AI-assisted coding tools, automation, data security, or technology advocacy.
