Compliance Officer, Japan (Crypto Payments)

Location: Tokyo, Japan

Base salary: ¥15,662,000–¥23,973,000 per year, excluding commission, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Design, implement, and maintain hirify.global Japan’s compliance program, including AML/CFT, KYC, and Travel Rule controls.
• Act as the primary contact for regulatory engagement and licensing workstreams in Japan.
• Work with outside counsel on regulatory filings and ongoing compliance obligations.
• Build Japan-specific policies and procedures for a crypto payments infrastructure business.
• Track digital-asset and payments regulation in Japan and advise leadership on its impact.
• Support partner and client onboarding, due diligence, and compliance reporting for the board and regulators.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in compliance, regulatory affairs, or legal roles within financial services, payments, or crypto and digital assets in Japan.
• Strong knowledge of Japan’s regulatory framework for payments and/or crypto-asset businesses.
• Experience working with or reporting to the FSA or a comparable regulator.
• Experience with financial license applications involving Regional Finance Bureaus and the FSA.
• Business-level fluency in Japanese and English; native Japanese is preferred.
• Ability to build a compliance function from the ground up with limited initial resources and produce detailed policy and regulatory documents.
