Senior Compliance Officer

Location: Tokyo, Japan; hybrid schedule with at least four days per week in the designated office and one day outside an hirify.global office

What you will do

• Provide regulatory compliance advice and interpret Japanese laws, rules, and regulatory guidelines for business operations.
• Act as a primary contact for regulators, prepare regulatory filings and notifications, and coordinate responses to inspections, inquiries, and data requests.
• Design, implement, and monitor compliance programs, policies, procedures, internal controls, and governance frameworks for the APAC private markets business.
• Review marketing materials, solicitation practices, suitability checks, complaint handling, conflicts of interest, and related-party transactions.
• Support AML/CFT and sanctions compliance, ethics frameworks, information barriers, personal account dealing, and gifts and entertainment controls.
• Deliver compliance training and provide reporting and escalation to senior management, the Board, and relevant committees.

Requirements

• At least 10 years of regulatory compliance advisory experience in financial services or asset management.
• Strong knowledge of Japanese financial services regulations and regulatory expectations for alternative investment businesses.
• More than 10 years of experience with alternative investment products, including real estate and private credit, is strongly preferred.
• Strong written and verbal English communication skills required.
• Excellent integrity, organization, attention to detail, stakeholder management, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, handle confidential matters, and operate effectively in a pressured environment.

Nice to have

• Korean regulatory knowledge and Korean language skills.
• Training and coaching experience.
• ARES Certified Master or Real Estate Transaction Specialist qualification.
