Research Engineer - Power Systems (Power Systems): Researching and documenting new ideas, product specifications, and innovative applications for electric power systems with an accent on power system analysis, protection, stability, and utility automation. Focus on analyzing transients, load flow, and short-circuit studies with simulation tools, conducting competitive product analysis, and developing technical publications and intellectual property applications.

Location: Pullman, Washington, United States; onsite at the hirify.global corporate office

Salary: $97,000–$144,000 per year

What you will do

  • Research and document new ideas and create product specifications.
  • Develop application notes, white papers, technical reports, and conference and journal papers.
  • Conduct competitive product analysis and track industry practices and trends.
  • Maintain working knowledge of hirify.global products and solutions.
  • Protect intellectual property by preparing patent and copyright applications.
  • Travel approximately 25% for role-related activities.

Requirements

  • B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 2 years of working knowledge in electric power systems, utility automation and control, utility-grade communications, digital signal processing, or statistical analysis and data analytics.
  • Experience using simulation software to analyze power system transients, load flow, and short-circuit studies.
  • Knowledge of power system analysis, protection, and stability.
  • Experience with analytical tools such as MATLAB or Simulink.
  • Strong technical training, writing, documentation, and speaking skills.

Nice to have

  • Cross-disciplinary knowledge of electric power systems, utility automation and control systems, utility-grade communication schemes, and digital signal processing.
