Project Architect (Life Sciences)

Location: Chicago, IL, United States

Salary: $105,000–$125,000 annually, with the final offer depending on qualifications, experience, certifications, internal equity, and location.

What you will do

• Lead architectural design and technical execution for pharmaceutical and biotechnology manufacturing facilities.
• Translate client workflows, technical criteria, and regulatory requirements into efficient, compliant, and constructible facility designs.
• Provide expertise in programming, feasibility studies, facility planning, cleanroom design, process adjacencies, and material and personnel flows.
• Guide architectural teams through programming, concept development, schematic and detailed design, construction documentation, and construction administration.
• Coordinate with project managers, process architects, lab planners, engineers, and construction partners.
• Review drawings, details, and specifications; support schedules and scope coordination; participate in client presentations; and mentor junior staff.

Requirements

• 7+ years of architectural experience focused on life sciences manufacturing, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or other regulated facilities.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture from an accredited institution.
• Registered Architect with an active professional license.
• Experience with regulated environments, including cleanrooms and controlled manufacturing spaces.
• Strong knowledge of cGMP, FDA and EU pharmaceutical requirements, and ISO 14644 cleanroom standards.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and architectural design and documentation tools, plus strong technical, coordination, communication, and mentoring skills.
