Software Engineer - Network and Automation

Location: Reston, Virginia, United States; hybrid work schedule with office presence required

Annual base salary: $135,800–$183,800, plus potential discretionary bonus and stock awards for eligible roles.

What you will do

• Design, build, and maintain tools supporting network infrastructure deployment, testing, and operations.
• Develop network orchestration standards for monitoring and configuration management.
• Improve monitoring and data visualization using NetFlow and streaming telemetry.
• Design and implement auto-remediation for undesirable network events.
• Build systems for RPKI validation, ROA management, and BGP origin validation at scale.
• Develop route policy and provisioning pipelines, observability tooling, runbooks, and incident documentation across a diverse multi-vendor network.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• 8+ years of related engineering experience.
• Experience creating or working with APIs and REST, JSON, XML, and YAML.
• Experience with routers, switches, load balancers, and network routing protocols including BGP, OSPF, VRRP, DHCP, TCP, UDP, and IPv6.
• Experience with IRR and RPSL filtering, plus familiarity with ASPA, RPKI ROV, and PKI infrastructure.
• Proficiency in a software development language, debugging custom code, and developing scalable, optimized systems.

Nice to have

• Linux and Docker experience.
• Experience with automation platforms such as Ansible or Salt.
• Open-source contributions and a project repository.
• Experience with time-series databases such as InfluxDB, OpenTSDB, or Prometheus.
• Strong communication, documentation, presentation, and vendor-liaison skills.
