Firmware Engineer (Robotics)

Location: Remote across the United States; optional office work in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Interviews are conducted remotely.

What you will do

• Design and architect firmware for robots with other firmware engineers.
• Own firmware modules and deliver readable, production-ready code.
• Document code and visualize architecture with engineering diagrams.
• Debug existing firmware and resolve implementation issues.
• Create test plans for factory firmware deployment using test fixtures.
• Perform unit testing for firmware modules as needed.

Requirements

• 3+ years of embedded software or firmware development experience.
• 2+ years of programming experience in C/C++.
• 1+ year of experience with ESP-IDF.
• Knowledge of real-time operating systems, specifically FreeRTOS.
• Ability to work with ESP32-series chips and develop efficient firmware for low-memory devices.
• A relevant bachelor's or master's degree is preferred; without a degree, 5 additional years of development experience through personal or professional projects are required.

Nice to have

• 5+ years of embedded software or firmware development experience and 3+ years of C/C++ programming experience.
• 2+ years of ESP-IDF experience.
• Experience with Wi-Fi communication, Protobuf, and protocols such as I2C, I2S, and SPI.
• Experience reading PCB diagrams and using hardware tools to debug PCB boards.
• Knowledge of memory management in C.
