Focus on maintaining monitoring models, analyzing mechanical and electrical systems, supporting automation and problem-solving projects, and conducting plant walkdowns.
Location: Hybrid, based in Southport, North Carolina, or at one of the six Duke Nuclear sites or the corporate office; requires the ability to work lawfully in the United States without employment-based immigration sponsorship. The role includes office and plant work, occasional overnight travel, 5–15% travel, emergency response responsibilities, and on-call duty rotation.

What you will do
- Monitor mechanical and electrical systems and components through software platforms.
- Maintain continuous online monitoring models for nuclear plant assets.
- Collaborate with system, component, and thermal performance engineers to support equipment reliability.
- Contribute to problem-solving, innovation, and automation projects.
- Prepare technical reports, correspondence, and documentation for routine technical problem resolution.
- Provide plant walkdowns and field support for modification implementation.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program, or a master’s degree in engineering in lieu of a bachelor’s degree.
- Engineer I: 0–2 years of engineering experience.
- Engineer II: 2–4 years of engineering experience, including at least 1 year of nuclear experience.
- Ability to obtain nuclear site Unescorted Access/Security clearance and work lawfully in the U.S. without visa sponsorship.
- Ability to work in office and plant environments, wear required personal protective equipment, and participate in emergency response or on-call duties when required.
- Additional hours and occasional overnight travel may be required.
Nice to have
- Knowledge of thermal performance monitoring at large power-generating stations.
- Knowledge of information technology, database applications, analytics, vibration analysis, turbomachinery, or thermal hydraulics.
- Knowledge of instrumentation, measurement, and measurement uncertainty.
- Passing grade on the Engineering Fundamentals Exam.
- Utility industry experience and understanding of basic project management principles.
