Rock - General Maintenance Worker

What you will do

• Perform general maintenance and repair of equipment and buildings at the Rock Island Arsenal.
• Replace and repair electrical receptacles, wiring, switches, fixtures, motors, doors, locks, windows, ceiling tiles, flooring, concrete, and paneling.
• Repair plumbing fixtures, patch walls and ceilings, and paint structures and equipment.
• Set up displays, signs, chairs, podiums, furniture, partitions, equipment, and carpet runners.
• Inspect meters, eyewash stations, sump pumps, grease traps, air conditioners, and work areas; clean and remove unused materials.
• Assist mechanics and journeymen with complex maintenance tasks and perform on-call duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Practical knowledge of painting, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, electrical work, worksite safety, and occupational hazards.
• Four years of experience in building maintenance and inspection may be required, along with training or certification under the National Board Inspection Code.
• Ability to use aerial bucket trucks and man lifts, climb ladders, work in confined spaces, and handle or transport hazardous waste and chemicals when required.
• Valid state driver's license, safe driving record, successful motor vehicle record screening, and ability to obtain a security clearance if required.
• Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather and on uneven terrain; bend, stoop, kneel, crawl, climb, and lift up to 60 pounds, with team lifting or mechanical assistance above 40 pounds.
• Availability for alternate and extended shifts, weekends, holidays, and on-call response within the required timeframe.
