Motor Vehicle Mechanic Machinist

What you will do

• Diagnose, repair, rebuild, and overhaul gasoline- and diesel-powered vehicles and equipment.
• Service engines, transmissions, drivetrains, fuel, ignition, electrical, brake, suspension, and steering systems.
• Transport equipment, tools, and materials and support setup, teardown, relocation, troubleshooting, and repairs at remote test sites.
• Fabricate and machine replacement parts using lathes, milling machines, drill presses, grinders, and other standard equipment.
• Use precision measuring instruments to verify dimensions, tolerances, and compliance with specifications.
• Maintain repair records, machining documentation, tools, equipment, and safe working conditions.

Requirements

• Secret security clearance required.
• Completion of a formal apprenticeship, technical school training, or military training in automotive repair, diesel mechanics, machining, or a related field.
• High school diploma or equivalent plus five years of relevant vehicle maintenance and machining experience, or equivalent qualifying training and experience.
• At least four years of experience in motor vehicle maintenance and repair.
• Demonstrated ability to diagnose, repair, and rebuild vehicle systems and assemblies.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, documentation, and communication skills.

Nice to have

• At least two years of machining and fabrication experience.
• Experience operating lathes, milling machines, and other machine-shop equipment.
• Experience supporting military, test range, heavy equipment, field, or remote-site operations.
• CompTIA Security+, Network+, Microsoft, Linux, or VMware certifications.
• Knowledge of DoD cybersecurity requirements, including RMF and STIG compliance, or experience with test range instrumentation and engineering systems.
