Damage Prevention Technicians (Levels I, II, III)

Location: Remote in Florida; ideal candidates reside within an hour commute of Miami/Dade County. The role includes field work, travel, and rotating 24/7/365 on-call coverage.

Salary: $16.52–$25.00 USD/hour for Level I; $19.52–$30.00 USD/hour for Level II; $23.41–$36.01 USD/hour for Level III.

What you will do

• Analyze blueprints and construction plans to identify utility locations.
• Locate and mark underground fiber and other Zayo utilities using electrical, magnetic, GPS, surveying, and radar techniques.
• Document site information, utility locations, photos, and client interactions in company software.
• Communicate with clients, engineers, management, and cross-functional teams.
• Maintain tools, test equipment, vehicles, network equipment, and on-site materials.
• Monitor vendor and contractor work while supporting safety, network security, training, and process improvement.

Requirements

• Level I: at least 6 months of utility-locating experience; Level II: at least 2 years; Level III: at least 5 years with fiber and other underground utilities.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience with computers, smartphones, test equipment, Microsoft Windows, and Office applications.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work rotating 24/7/365 on-call schedules, including standby, dispatch, overtime, and travel.
• Valid state-issued driver’s license and eligibility to operate a company vehicle; ability to lift up to 75 pounds.

Nice to have

• Experience in site development, underground installations, utility locating, or fiber-optic cable builds.
• Greater independence and subject-matter expertise for Level III responsibilities.
