Application Engineer I (BESS/Microgrid)

Location: Fort Collins, Colorado, USA; onsite role with up to 20% travel

Salary: $78,200–$100,000 annual base salary, plus eligibility for short- and long-term variable incentives.

What you will do

• Support the BESS and microgrid sales team with early-stage technical requirements before purchase orders.
• Gather customer requirements and review electrical one-line diagrams, sequences of operations, and technical specifications.
• Recommend design and functional changes, identify non-standard elements, and escalate feature requests.
• Use the Xendee energy management modeling tool to recommend BESS sizing based on customer inputs.
• Support contracted projects from purchase order through commissioning by identifying scope gaps and resolving project roadblocks.
• Educate sales teams, dealers, and customers through presentations, webinars, training materials, ordering guides, application notes, and software demonstrations.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
• 0–1 years of experience in an engineering role.
• Ability to review electrical diagrams and technical documents, with a basic understanding of electrical and mechanical control systems.
• Ability to interpret customer specifications, electrical symbols, and control schematics and solve simple application problems under supervision.
• Strong written and verbal technical communication, interpersonal, organizational, and attention-to-detail skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and willingness to travel up to 20%.

Nice to have

• Electrical or Mechanical Engineering degree.
• Customer service or sales support experience.
• Experience creating technical documentation, technical training, or educational materials.
• Power or energy modeling experience.
• Project management experience.
