Senior Automation Project Engineer (Manufacturing)

Location: Monroe, Michigan, United States; onsite manufacturing role with up to 25% travel

What you will do

• Lead automation and capital equipment projects from concept development through design, installation, commissioning, validation, and acceptance.
• Integrate robotics, vision systems, sensors, servo systems, and automated material handling equipment.
• Develop project scopes, technical specifications, schedules, budgets, resource plans, documentation, and operating procedures.
• Coordinate internal stakeholders, contractors, system integrators, equipment suppliers, FAT, and SAT activities.
• Provide advanced troubleshooting for automation and controls equipment and implement permanent corrective actions.
• Improve machine uptime, throughput, reliability, OEE, and labor efficiency while standardizing controls practices across facilities.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Computer, Electrical, or Mechatronics Engineering, or a related technical field, with 6–8 years of equipment design, automation engineering, and manufacturing systems experience, or equivalent experience.
• Demonstrated experience leading automation projects in a manufacturing environment.
• Strong collaboration and problem-solving skills with a results-driven approach.
• Ability to travel up to 25% or as required to support projects.
• Ability to perform the listed physical duties, including standing, walking, climbing stairs, reaching, pushing, pulling, and lifting equipment or materials.

Nice to have

• Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• Experience in furniture, consumer goods, automotive, or high-volume manufacturing.
• Experience with SolidWorks 3D and/or AutoCAD for mechanical parts, systems, and facility drawings.
