TL;DR
Senior Automation Engineer (Robotics): Designing, integrating, and supporting automated manufacturing equipment in a fast-paced production environment with an accent on mechanical design, PLC-based controls, robotics, and machine vision. Focus on troubleshooting electromechanical systems, improving equipment reliability and uptime, and leading capital equipment projects from requirements through production handoff.

Location: Norwich, Connecticut, United States; onsite office, lab, and manufacturing environment

What you will do

  • Lead the design, implementation, ownership, and continuous improvement of automated manufacturing equipment, fixtures, and assembly processes.
  • Design and modify mechanical systems, tooling, fixtures, and machine assemblies using SolidWorks, with emphasis on reliability, ergonomics, throughput, serviceability, DFM, and DFA.
  • Design, program, configure, and troubleshoot electrical control systems, PLCs, HMIs, motion devices, sensors, actuators, and safety components.
  • Program and integrate industrial robots and machine vision systems, combining robotics, vision, motion, and PLC platforms into reliable automation solutions.
  • Diagnose production equipment issues, lead root-cause analysis, establish preventive maintenance strategies, and improve uptime.
  • Lead capital equipment projects, including vendor selection, design reviews, FAT/SAT, installation, commissioning, validation, cost justification, and production handoff.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in a fast-paced automation environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering discipline preferred.
  • Experience programming PLCs such as Allen-Bradley or Omron and troubleshooting control systems.
  • Experience programming industrial robots such as ABB or Fanuc and vision systems such as Cognex or Keyence.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, 3D modeling, HMI systems, motion controllers, and actuators.
  • Advanced electromechanical skills, strong communication, multitasking, and project execution abilities; familiarity with UL and CE standards.

Nice to have

  • Six Sigma certification, preferably Black Belt.
