Automation Applications Engineer (Automotive Automation): Leading the installation and launch of robot cells, automated assembly equipment, test systems, vision systems, and plant-floor controls equipment with an accent on project execution, commissioning, and manufacturing integration. Focus on PLC and robot troubleshooting, industrial network connectivity, safety validation, supplier coordination, and resolving complex mechanical, electrical, controls, pneumatic, and process issues.

Location: Plymouth, Michigan, United States; travel to assembly plants and supplier locations is required.

hirify.global is hiring an automation engineering professional to support automation projects in assembly plants.

What you will do

  • Lead installation, commissioning, debug, launch, and handoff of robot cells, automated assembly equipment, test systems, vision systems, and controls equipment.
  • Coordinate plant teams, central automation and IT teams, vendors, suppliers, maintenance, operations, and safety stakeholders.
  • Manage installation timelines, resource plans, launch-readiness actions, issue lists, escalation plans, and capital equipment budgets.
  • Develop and maintain equipment and process standards covering specifications, purchasing, design reviews, validation, run-off, qualification, and installation.
  • Provide hands-on support for robot programming, path verification, safety validation, PLC troubleshooting, controls checkout, commissioning, and early production support.
  • Evaluate supplier performance, develop installation partners, coach plant and AME teams, and define requirements for refurbishment, redeployment, relocation, and recommissioning of used equipment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical, manufacturing, or mechatronics engineering, computer science, or equivalent technical experience.
  • At least 5 years of experience in manufacturing automation, equipment installation, launch, maintenance, or controls engineering.
  • Experience leading automation projects from planning through installation, debug, commissioning, launch, and plant handoff.
  • Hands-on experience with robot assembly cells, conveyors, end-of-arm tooling, test systems, vision systems, safety systems, and plant-floor controls equipment.
  • Working knowledge of robot programming, Rockwell/Allen-Bradley PLCs, Studio 5000/RSLogix, HMIs, safety circuits, industrial networks, Ethernet/IP, managed switches, IP addressing, and equipment troubleshooting.
  • Ability to travel to assembly plants and supplier locations for installation, run-off, launch readiness, commissioning, troubleshooting, and product launches.
