Senior Mechanical Engineer

Location: Hiawatha, Iowa, United States. Full-time, on-site, Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.; no travel required. Occasional exposure to manufacturing and testing environments, with lifting up to 25 lbs and extended standing during product testing.

What you will do

• Design, develop, and verify sheet-metal and machined-metal components and assemblies.
• Integrate mechanical and electrical components into complete assemblies and support new-product builds and testing.
• Create schematic diagrams, assembly drawings, mechanical performance requirements, reports, and manufacturing specifications.
• Review designs for compliance, manufacturability, quality, and error prevention.
• Provide advanced troubleshooting support to Manufacturing, Technical Services, field operations, and Sales.
• Lead peer reviews and small project groups while mentoring new department hires.

Requirements

• Must be a US Person: US citizen, US permanent resident, or protected person.
• Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering or a related field and 5+ years of mechanical engineering experience, or 20+ years of mechanical engineering experience in lieu of a degree.
• Advanced knowledge of 3D modeling, mechanical engineering theory, component standards, and computer hardware and systems integration.
• Proficiency with finite element analysis, computational fluid dynamics, CNC design requirements, and engineering software including Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD, and Ansys.
• Ability to read and compare technical data sheets, use measurement and inspection tools, and troubleshoot computer hardware at assembly level.
• Ability to lead small teams of 1–3 members and identify and implement departmental process improvements.

Nice to have

• 5+ years of mechanical component design or manufacturing experience.
• 5+ years of CAD software experience.
• Extensive knowledge of PC, firewall, switch, data acquisition, UPS, and server rack equipment.
• Extensive knowledge of harsh mechanical environments.
• At least one year of leadership experience.
