TL;DR
Lead Fund Controller, Private Markets (Private Equity and Private Credit): Overseeing NAV, financial reporting, audits, capital calls, distributions, and operational activities for private investment funds with an accent on complex transactions, partnership accounting, and U.S. GAAP compliance. Focus on reviewing waterfall and carried interest calculations, managing complex fund structures, coordinating external administrators and auditors, and enhancing accounting controls and processes.

Location: Boston, MA, United States; hybrid schedule with 4 days in the office and 1 day remote per week

Base salary: USD 120,000–225,000 per year, plus potential bonus, incentives, and benefits.

What you will do

  • Oversee quarterly NAV and financial statement processes for assigned private equity, private credit, and other private investment funds.
  • Review complex portfolio transactions, waterfall and carried interest calculations, management fees, IRR calculations, and U.S. GAAP presentation.
  • Coordinate capital calls, distributions, fund expenses, cash and capital management, and deal funding.
  • Lead annual audits and collaborate with fund administrators, auditors, investment teams, investor relations, tax, compliance, and product management.
  • Contribute to new fund launches, product development, accounting policies, procedures, and operational improvements.
  • Lead fund-related projects, perform peer reviews, and oversee junior team members.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in accounting or finance.
  • 7+ years of experience at an alternative investment firm, public accounting firm, or fund administrator.
  • 4+ years of experience with private credit and/or private equity fund accounting and operations.
  • Knowledge of partnership accounting, closed-end funds, capital calls, distributions, management fees, carried interest, clawbacks, and private investment transactions.
  • Proficiency in U.S. GAAP, technical accounting research, financial statement presentation, private asset valuation, and complex fund structures.
  • Advanced Excel skills and strong communication, organization, problem-solving, and client service abilities.

Nice to have

  • Progress toward or completion of a CPA, CFA, or MBA.
  • Experience with private real estate or infrastructure funds, open-ended structures, series accounting, performance fees, and high-water marks.
  • Experience with or interest in developing skills in Tableau, Power BI, and Alteryx.
