Software Developer (DoD)

Location: Remote in the United States; occasional work may be required at a Booz Allen or customer facility.

Salary: $61,900–$141,000 annualized USD

What you will do

• Build, maintain, and enhance applications supporting Joint Staff education, doctrine development, and readiness reporting.
• Modernize and sustain systems including JEL, JDDT, UTDT, JAMIS, and related interfaces.
• Translate functional requirements into software designs, prototypes, code, unit tests, documentation, and user guides.
• Perform validation testing, user acceptance activities, and installation of patches and software updates.
• Support secure and reliable application operation across NIPRNet, SIPRNet, and other approved DoD environments.
• Align development practices with Zero Trust Architecture, Risk Management Framework requirements, and modern DoD software standards.

Requirements

• 1+ year of software development experience, or 3+ years with an associate’s degree.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, information systems management, IT, or a related field, with 1+ year of software development experience; alternatively, an associate’s degree with 3+ years of experience.
• Experience maintaining existing applications and supporting sustainment activities.
• Experience translating client requirements into application features and specifications.
• Knowledge of secure development practices, software documentation standards, application integration, and testing tools.
• Secret clearance is required, with eligibility for access to classified information.

Nice to have

• Experience with DoD-managed or federally managed software environments and Joint Staff information systems.
• Experience with AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
• Experience with C#, Java, Python, C, C++, .NET, JavaScript, React, Angular, NodeJS, PHP, Bash, Visual Basic, Groovy, or Lua.
• Knowledge of shell scripting, automation, Git, relational or hierarchical data structures, functional programming, and Agile development.
