Senior Fund Controller (Finance)

Location: Boston, MA, United States; hybrid work with office attendance 4 days per week and remote work 1 day per week

Salary: USD 80,000–150,000 per year, plus potential bonus, incentives, and benefits

What you will do

• Oversee daily fund accounting activities performed by third-party administrators, including trial balances, accruals, receivables, payables, security positions, and capital activity.
• Review pricing exceptions, fair value determinations, stale prices, valuation risks, complex securities, derivatives, structured products, alternative investments, and private investments.
• Manage cash, position, valuation, and market value reconciliations while investigating root causes and implementing sustainable remediation.
• Monitor service providers, operating metrics, service levels, operational risks, and control effectiveness.
• Prepare valuation support materials, validate fund and share class performance returns, and support audits, regulatory examinations, and due diligence reviews.
• Design automation solutions, dashboards, workflows, and reporting tools in partnership with Technology teams to improve scalability, transparency, and risk management.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, economics, information systems, or a related discipline.
• 4+ years of experience in fund accounting, fund administration, or fund operations.
• Knowledge of mutual funds, collective investment trusts, hedge funds, interval funds, alternative investments, GAAP, and fund accounting principles.
• Understanding of accounting for fixed income and common stock, with strong analytical, problem-solving, interpersonal, and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to work in a collaborative, team-based, results-oriented environment.
• Ability to work from the Boston office 4 days per week, with remote work flexibility 1 day per week.

Nice to have

• Progress toward an MBA or CFA.
• Experience with SQL and database querying, advanced Excel including Power Query, Pivot Tables, and VBA, Tableau, Alteryx, SharePoint, workflow tools, or Python.
