Fiber Engineer (Telecom)

Location: United States, with preference for the Central or East Coast. Second-shift position with holiday and weekend on-call rotation. Applicants must already be authorized to work full-time in the United States; employer-sponsored work authorization and work visas are not available.

Salary: $53,300–$82,000 USD annually.

What you will do

• Design point-to-point, ring, and path-diverse routes for fiber-based services.
• Develop fiber-path designs and complex splicing schematics for high-volume projects, relocations, capacity augments, and greenfield builds.
• Maintain accurate fiber plant, asset, utilization, and circuit-assignment data in GE Smallworld, Salesforce, and related inventory systems.
• Lead outside plant break/fix planning and execution, including fiber placement, splicing coordination, restoration, and maintenance.
• Coordinate engineering, construction, design, clients, vendors, and contractors to meet project schedules and SLA objectives.
• Prepare project plans, schedules, and budgets while ensuring work follows permits, construction prints, safety rules, and engineering specifications.

Requirements

• Four-year engineering degree or equivalent telecommunications network experience.
• At least three years of fiber design experience, including ring configurations, FTT projects, and high-volume site deliveries.
• Prior telecommunications and fiber plant installation experience; ability to interpret field information and raw OTDR data into action plans.
• Extensive knowledge of EXFO Fast Reporter 3 and experience with Google Earth, including creating and interpreting detailed KMZ files.
• Knowledge of GIS platforms and fiber inventory systems, with strong analytical, organizational, communication, and time-management skills.
• Current full-time U.S. work authorization is required; OPT, TN, H1B, and other employer-sponsored work visas are not accepted.

Nice to have

• Experience with Salesforce, GE Smallworld, IQ Geo, or OSPinsight.
• Fiber splicing experience.
