Field Technician II (Telecommunications)

Location: Field-based role in the greater New York/New Jersey metro area; candidates must reside within 1 hour of the area. Occasional overnight travel and on-call shifts may be required.

Salary: $21.49–$32.98 USD per hour

What you will do

• Install, commission, turn up, troubleshoot, and maintain SONET, TDM, DWDM, IP, and Ethernet telecommunications equipment.
• Perform OTDR, Ethernet, BER, and SONET acceptance testing, as well as circuit and fiber-optic testing.
• Complete network and customer-service installations, decommissioning, preventative maintenance, and demand maintenance.
• Conduct site surveys, inspect cabinets, buried cable, construction sites, outside plant networks, and critical infrastructure.
• Install, label, clean, scope, and test fiber-optic patch cords and related equipment.
• Document work through site surveys, fiber panel audits, closeout packages, power audit reports, and routine reports; participate in on-call support.

Requirements

• Residence within 1 hour of the New York/New Jersey metro area is required.
• High school diploma or equivalent and at least two years of telecommunications field experience.
• Experience installing, testing, or turning up telecommunications equipment, including SONET, TDM, DWDM, IP, or Ethernet systems.
• Working knowledge of optical power meters, digital multimeters, fiber identifiers, and fiber scopes.
• Ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 75 pounds and work outdoors in varied weather, terrain, and environmental conditions.
• Valid state-issued driver's license, acceptable motor vehicle record, legal identification, and ability to pass required background checks.

Nice to have

• OTDR, DC power, and circuit testing experience.
• Experience with RFC2544, RFC6349 Truespeed, iPerf, or Y.1564.
• Real ID or security clearance.
