Spring 2027 Mechatronics Engineering Co-op (PLC/Industrial Automation): Developing and maintaining controls for mechanical test fixtures used in cycle, endurance, and reliability testing with an accent on PLC programming, electromechanical troubleshooting, and automation system integration. Focus on commissioning sensors, conveyors, and robotic subsystems, building diagnostic tools, and analyzing system failures to improve reliability and performance.

Location: Onsite at the Bedford, Massachusetts office. The co-op runs approximately from January to June 2027, with flexible dates.

What you will do

  • Develop, modify, debug, and troubleshoot PLC programs using ladder logic, structured text, and I/O diagnostics.
  • Commission and validate automation systems involving sensors, conveyors, robotic subsystems, drives, PLCs, and safety systems.
  • Develop diagnostic tools for identifying electrical and control-system faults and monitoring test performance.
  • Build test setups to validate control logic and hardware functionality.
  • Troubleshoot wiring faults, sensor failures, communication errors, and other electromechanical issues.
  • Support root cause analysis, corrective actions, system documentation, panel wiring, labeling, and verification.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field.
  • Hands-on experience or coursework with PLC programming.
  • Understanding of electrical systems, circuit troubleshooting, and reading electrical schematics.
  • Familiarity with industrial sensors, actuators, motors, and control systems.
  • Strong hardware and software debugging, problem-solving, written communication, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Nice to have

  • Basic programming experience with Python, C/C++, or structured text.
  • Interest in industrial automation, robotics, and system integration.
