Mechatronics Engineering Co-op (PLC/Robotics)

Location: Onsite at the Bedford, Massachusetts office; the co-op runs approximately January to June 2027, with flexible dates.

What you will do

• Develop, modify, test, and troubleshoot PLC programs, including ladder logic, structured text, and I/O.
• Commission and validate automation systems involving sensors, conveyors, robotic subsystems, PLCs, drives, and safety systems.
• Develop diagnostic tools and test setups to identify electrical and control-system faults and validate hardware functionality.
• Troubleshoot wiring faults, sensor failures, communication errors, and other electromechanical issues.
• Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, quality, and systems engineers to improve reliability, uptime, and performance.
• Support root cause analysis, corrective actions, electrical schematic interpretation, panel wiring, documentation, and system bring-up.

Requirements

• Actively pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field.
• Hands-on experience or coursework with PLC programming.
• Fundamental understanding of electrical systems, including reading schematics and troubleshooting circuits.
• Familiarity with industrial sensors, actuators, motors, and control systems.
• Strong problem-solving and debugging skills across hardware and software contexts.
• Interest in industrial automation, robotics, and system integration.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for documentation and reporting.

Nice to have

• Basic programming experience with Python, C, C++, or structured text.
