Senior Automation and Controls Engineer (Robotics)

Location: Mountain View, California, United States

Base salary: $159,200–$217,300 per year, plus 15% bonus, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Design, build, and deploy robotic automation workcells from hardware selection and electrical design through robot, PLC, and HMI programming.
• Collaborate with product managers, software developers, researchers, customers, and external system integrators to develop and refine robotic platforms.
• Source and integrate technology products into automation workcells.
• Define automation applications and assess their feasibility, scope, and cost.
• Establish hardware selection and PLC software standards for industrial control systems.
• Document and communicate technical work to internal and external stakeholders.

Requirements

• Degree in Controls, Mechatronics, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• At least 3 years of professional experience with robotics, PLC programming, fieldbus communication, or motion controllers in manufacturing facilities.
• Experience designing automation cells with CAD and performing system simulations.
• Experience selecting components and designing electrical and pneumatic schematics, including assembling electrical panels.
• Proficiency in debugging and wiring industrial robotic control systems.
• Ability to work through ambiguity, select a direction, and drive solutions.

Nice to have

• Experience designing safety circuitry and safety logic for industrial automation.
• Experience managing vendors, including RFPs, SOWs, execution, and system acceptance testing.
• Programming experience in high-level languages beyond low-level control.
• Exposure to multiple industries using robotic automation.
• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.
