TL;DR
Electronics Engineering Technician (Marine Energy Hardware): Building, reworking, testing, and maintaining electronics for ocean-energy nodes and test systems with an accent on circuit card assemblies, cable harnesses, sensors, microcontrollers, power systems, and depth-rated enclosures. Focus on integrating and troubleshooting mixed analog and digital hardware, performing environmental qualification tests, and documenting reliable systems for remote field operations.

Location: On-site in Portland, Oregon, United States

Compensation: $35–$42 per hour, plus company equity.

What you will do

  • Build, rework, test, calibrate, and troubleshoot analog and digital electronics using through-hole and surface-mount components.
  • Assemble depth-rated enclosures, cable harnesses, sensors, microcontrollers, power systems, and bulkhead wiring into integrated power and data networks.
  • Perform high-skill soldering, component replacement, board bring-up, and low-volume circuit board assembly.
  • Inspect externally built PCBs and sensor systems, identify defects, and document performance issues.
  • Support electrical and software engineers with hardware integration, microcontroller flashing, provisioning, and troubleshooting.
  • Maintain organized electronics workspaces, inventory, tooling, work instructions, test records, and field-operation kits.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience building, modifying, testing, and troubleshooting PCB assemblies.
  • 3+ years of experience as an engineering technician or in an equivalent hands-on electronics role.
  • Experience working safely with high-voltage electronics, fabricating and repairing cable assemblies, and performing environmental qualification tests.
  • Strong working knowledge of soldering, hot-air rework, reflow, optical microscopes, multimeters, oscilloscopes, adjustable power supplies, and hand tools.
  • Knowledge of ESD controls, precision work instructions, and clear technical communication.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States and able to work on-site in Portland. The role also requires standing for up to eight hours, occasional lifting of 50 pounds or more, and work on ladders or elevated platforms.

Nice to have

  • Experience with electronics for marine, outdoor, industrial, aerospace, or other harsh environments.
  • Experience with fault isolation, systematic troubleshooting, sensors, embedded controllers, power electronics, or data-acquisition hardware.
  • Experience improving work instructions, test procedures, component storage, or inventory processes.
  • Comfort working in a rapid-prototyping environment with frequent hardware changes.
