Senior Linux Engineer (Classified Environment)

Location: Oak Ridge, Tennessee, USA. The role involves physical work requirements, mission-critical operations, planned maintenance, and occasional after-hours support.

What you will do

• Lead the design, engineering, modernization, and sustainment of secure Linux infrastructure across physical and virtual environments and multiple security domains.
• Architect and optimize enterprise platforms based primarily on Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Ubuntu.
• Automate infrastructure using Ansible, Python, Bash, Git, and infrastructure-as-code practices.
• Implement system hardening, vulnerability remediation, monitoring, and compliance aligned with RMF, NIST 800-53, STIGs, DOE directives, and ICD 503.
• Integrate Linux platforms with identity, virtualization, storage, backup, monitoring, logging, and security systems, including Active Directory, LDAP, Kerberos, PKI, VMware, and KVM.
• Provide technical leadership, mentorship, root-cause analysis, architecture guidance, and escalation support for complex infrastructure challenges.

Requirements

• At least eight years of Linux systems engineering or administration experience and a bachelor’s degree in a related technical field, or equivalent education, experience, and certifications.
• Advanced expertise in RHEL/Linux engineering, architecture, troubleshooting, performance optimization, and lifecycle management.
• Demonstrated experience with Ansible, Python, Bash, automation, and infrastructure-as-code.
• Experience integrating enterprise virtualization, identity, storage, monitoring/logging, and cybersecurity capabilities.
• Current Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility is required.
• Visa sponsorship is not available. The position requires eligibility to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy SCI clearance, pre-placement and random drug testing, and possible random polygraph testing.

Nice to have

• Experience in classified, Intelligence Community, DoD, DOE, or other highly regulated computing environments.
• Experience with HPC, AI/ML infrastructure, GPU computing, containers, Kubernetes, or advanced computing platforms.
• Experience with large-scale automation, configuration management, CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, or platform engineering.
• Experience with RMF, NIST 800-53, STIG implementation, vulnerability management, system authorization, virtualization, storage, backup, resiliency, or disaster recovery.
• Relevant advanced Linux, automation, cybersecurity, virtualization, or cloud certifications.
