Medical Assistant - Specialty Center - Norfolk (Healthcare)

Location: Tufts Medical Center, Norfolk; on-site outpatient clinical setting

Salary: $22.00–$25.15 per hour

What you will do

• Manage patient flow, prepare medical records, escort patients, and prepare exam rooms.
• Record vital signs, pain levels, medication information, and other patient data.
• Assist providers and nursing staff with examinations, treatments, procedures, and specimen collection.
• Perform ordered point-of-care testing, equipment quality checks, and clinical supply management.
• Support referrals, prior authorizations, diagnostic testing, surgical scheduling, billing documentation, and electronic record scanning.
• Provide administrative support, including coordinating interpreter services, handling calls, and processing messages.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of a clinical program or at least six months of clinical experience in a healthcare setting.
• Basic Life Support certification, or ability to obtain it within three months.
• Ability to read, write, and spell in English for documentation and message taking.
• Basic to moderate computer skills, including electronic medical record systems; knowledge of Epic.
• Ability to follow universal precautions, protect HIPAA-protected information, and provide care across patient age groups.

Nice to have

• Two years of medical office experience.
• Bilingual communication skills.
• Experience with electronic medical record systems.
