Avionics Technician I (Aerospace): Maintaining, testing, troubleshooting, repairing, and integrating aircraft avionics, electrical systems, research equipment, simulators, and UAS payloads with an accent on aircraft communications, navigation, flight-control, and display systems. Focus on tracing signal flow, interpreting schematics, fabricating cables and harnesses, and supporting NASA research aircraft maintenance.
Location: Edwards Air Force Base, California, United States; onsite
Hourly pay: $46.30 per hour
Company
Provides technical maintenance and integration support for NASA-assigned research aircraft, simulators, UAS, payload systems, and related test equipment.
What you will do
- Operate, install, maintain, test, troubleshoot, repair, and integrate aircraft avionics, electrical, computer, and flight-control systems.
- Maintain NASA aircraft equipment records and document repairs and maintenance actions in NAMIS.
- Inspect, operate, calibrate, and maintain avionics and electrical test equipment.
- Troubleshoot and overhaul radios, navigation systems, transponders, air data computers, flight displays, relay panels, and related aircraft systems.
- Repair and maintain the J85 jet engine test cell, NASA T38 aircraft simulator, aircraft batteries, and ground support equipment.
- Perform aircraft ground-support duties, scheduled and unscheduled inspections, tool control, FOD prevention, and compliant hazardous-material disposal.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent and at least two years of fixed-wing aircraft maintenance experience in commercial, government, or DOD environments.
- Level 1 ESD Protection certification; FAA Airplane and/or Powerplant and FCC GROL certifications may be required.
- Advanced electronic principles, circuit analysis, signal tracing, schematic and engineering drawing interpretation, and electrical troubleshooting skills.
- Demonstrable soldering, cable, crimp, and harness fabrication skills.
- Must be physically capable of working in confined spaces and pass a NASA-administered physical examination.
- Must obtain and maintain NASA workmanship certifications, a Class II Flight Physical, survival training, CPR certification, and a valid state driver’s license.
