TL;DR
Avionics Technician l (Aircraft Avionics and Electrical Systems): Operating, maintaining, testing, troubleshooting, and repairing electronic and electrical systems on NASA research aircraft, simulators, UAS, and payload systems with an accent on avionics integration, aircraft maintenance, and electronic diagnostics. Focus on repairing radar, communication, navigation, flight-control, and flight-display systems, fabricating wiring harnesses, and maintaining NASA workmanship and safety certifications.

Location: Edwards Air Force Base, California, United States; onsite role

What you will do

  • Operate, install, maintain, test, troubleshoot, repair, and integrate aircraft avionics, electrical, computer, research equipment, and payload systems.
  • Support NASA research aircraft, simulators, UAS, jet engine test cells, and ground support equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and overhaul radios, navigation systems, transponders, flight management systems, flight displays, air data computers, and related avionics.
  • Fabricate, repair, clean, treat, assemble, and reinstall avionics components, cables, crimps, and wiring harnesses.
  • Maintain equipment records in NASA's NAMIS system, document repairs, complete engineering work orders, and follow QA and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform aircraft ground support duties, inspections, battery maintenance, tool control, FOD prevention, and hazardous-material disposal.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent and at least two years of fixed-wing aircraft maintenance experience in commercial, government, or Department of Defense environments.
  • Level 1 ESD Protection certification; FAA Airplane and/or Powerplant and FCC GROL certifications may be required.
  • Advanced knowledge of electronic principles, circuit analysis, signal flow, schematics, engineering drawings, and aircraft radar, communications, navigation, flight-control, flight-management, and display systems.
  • Demonstrable soldering, cable, crimp, and harness fabrication skills.
  • Must be physically capable of working in confined spaces, pass a NASA-administered physical, and obtain and maintain a Class II Flight Physical.
  • Must obtain and maintain NASA workmanship certifications, complete an annual eye exam, and complete physiological, land and water survival training. A valid state driver's license and CPR certification are also required.
