Avionics Technician I (Aerospace): Maintaining, testing, troubleshooting, and integrating aircraft avionics, electrical systems, simulators, and research payloads for the NASA X-59 project with an accent on aircraft electronics, flight systems, and maintenance documentation. Focus on diagnosing complex radar, communication, navigation, flight-control, and display systems, fabricating cable harnesses, and supporting aircraft ground operations.
Location: Edwards Air Force Base, California, United States. Full-time onsite role requiring 10-hour shifts from Friday through Monday, with possible overtime. Temporary assignment through 31 December 2026 supporting the X-59 project.
Pay rate: $46.30 per hour.

What you will do
- Operate, install, maintain, test, troubleshoot, repair, and integrate avionics, electrical, computer, and research payload systems on NASA aircraft and simulators.
- Maintain aircraft and equipment records in NASA's NAMIS system and document maintenance actions according to quality assurance and regulatory requirements.
- Inspect, calibrate, and maintain avionics and electrical test equipment, aircraft batteries, ground support equipment, and related systems.
- Troubleshoot radar, communications, navigation, flight-control, flight-management, flight-display, simulator, and J85 jet engine test-cell systems.
- Remove, repair, clean, treat for corrosion, assemble, and reinstall avionics and aircraft electrical components.
- Perform aircraft ground support duties, including towing, marshalling, jacking, scheduled and unscheduled inspections, tool control, FOD prevention, and hazardous-material disposal.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent and at least two years of fixed-wing commercial, government, or DOD aircraft maintenance experience.
- Level 1 ESD Protection certification; FAA Airframe and/or Powerplant and FCC GROL certifications may be required.
- Advanced knowledge of electronic principles and circuit analysis, with the ability to interpret schematics, engineering drawings, charts, and signal flow.
- Demonstrable soldering, cable, crimp, and harness fabrication skills.
- Must obtain and maintain NASA workmanship certifications, including IPC J-STD-001FS and NASA-STD-8739.1, 8739.5, and 8739.4 or equivalent standards.
- Must pass a NASA physical, obtain and maintain a Class II Flight Physical, complete physiological and land and water survival training, and be physically capable of working in confined spaces.
