Sr. Specialist Accounting Policy

Location: Cedar Rapids, Iowa, United States; hybrid attendance in the office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays

Salary: $112,000–$140,000 annually, plus potential annual bonus

What you will do

• Provide U.S. GAAP technical accounting guidance for current and proposed transactions.
• Develop, maintain, implement, and communicate global accounting policies and processes.
• Analyze significant and unusual transactions, alternative solutions, financial impacts, and legal or regulatory considerations.
• Research emerging FASB guidance and assess new accounting standards applicable to the business.
• Prepare accounting memos, policy documents, and financial statement disclosures for upcoming accounting pronouncements.
• Act as a technical accounting subject matter expert while collaborating with senior management, external auditors, legal counsel, regulators, consultants, and insurance industry accounting groups.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field.
• Eight years of accounting experience.
• In-depth accounting knowledge, preferably in financial services or insurance.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
• Advanced computer skills.

Nice to have

• Technical research experience and preparation of accounting memorandums and policies.
• Advanced writing and strategic thinking skills for complex accounting interpretations.
• CPA designation and Big Four experience.
• Knowledge of Statutory Accounting Principles, actuarial concepts, and financial instruments.
