Engineering Leader (Consumer Electronics)

Location: San Francisco, California, United States; on-site four days per week

Salary: $200,000–$230,000 annually, plus eligibility for a performance-based bonus.

What you will do

• Lead product design, development, manufacturing, and sustaining engineering for new and existing consumer electronics products.
• Coordinate mechanical, electrical, firmware, and manufacturing engineering efforts across the full product development cycle.
• Act as systems architect, making architecture decisions and resolving cross-functional design challenges.
• Guide products through architecture, prototyping, EVT, DVT, PVT, certification, NPI, production ramp, and sustaining engineering.
• Build partnerships with domestic and international suppliers, ODMs, JDMs, contract manufacturers, and Asian supply chains.
• Mentor engineers, recruit and manage full-time and contract talent, and drive process improvements with leadership and other department heads.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience developing outdoor or wearable consumer electronic devices, preferably at volumes above 100,000 units per year.
• 3+ years of engineering management experience leading multidisciplinary teams.
• BS, MS, PhD, or equivalent technical degree in mechanical or electrical engineering.
• Experience with Asian manufacturing and ODM, JDM, and contract manufacturing relationships.
• Experience with RF devices, including VHF, UHF, or Bluetooth, and products subject to RF, EMC, safety, environmental, and international regulatory requirements.
• Experience developing rugged waterproof devices rated IP67 or higher, with a self-motivated and process-oriented working style.

• Cross-domain engineering experience.
• Start-up or small-company experience and experience in fast-scaling environments.
• Acoustic device experience.
• HAM radio experience or interest.
