Principal Manager – Substation Construction & Maintenance, Test & Technology

Location: Hybrid role based in California, with a primary work location at Pomona Innovation Village and potential extended work in Alhambra. Regular facility attendance is required, along with up to 25% travel throughout the SCE service territory. Employees are generally required to work and reside in California.

Salary: $233,100–$349,600 per year

What you will do

• Set the long-term strategy for substation testing, commissioning, relay protection, automation, and operational technology programs.
• Lead digital substation transformation, virtualized protection and control systems, IEC-61850 architectures, and grid modernization initiatives.
• Oversee testing, commissioning, maintenance, energization, and operational readiness for assets from distribution voltages through 500kV.
• Direct safety, reliability, workforce, labor, training, capital, and O&M strategies for approximately 1,000 employees and contractors.
• Coordinate transmission operations, outage planning, restoration, emergency response, and field execution.
• Partner with engineering, grid operations, cybersecurity, telecommunications, regulators, and enterprise technology organizations.

Requirements

• At least seven years of experience supervising direct reports and/or managing projects.
• Experience managing field-oriented transmission, distribution, generation, substation, contractor, strategy, planning, engineering, system operations, or safety functions.
• Experience leading managers and large technical organizations supporting transmission and distribution operations, testing, commissioning, protection and controls, or automation.
• Expertise in relay protection, SCADA, telecom-assisted protection schemes, operational technology systems, and substation commissioning.
• Knowledge of NERC, NERC-CIP, CAISO, CPUC, GO95, and GO128 requirements.
• Successful candidates must pass a NERC/CIP Personnel Risk Assessment or background investigation and complete required training before receiving unescorted access.

Nice to have

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or a related discipline.
• California PE license.
• MBA or master’s degree.
• Experience with SCE transmission and distribution operations, substation architecture, grid modernization, and major capital and O&M budgets.
