Controls Engineer (Industrial Automation)

Location: Ringwood, Illinois, USA; onsite industrial manufacturing plant environment

Salary: $90,000–$120,000 per year

What you will do

• Modify, maintain, troubleshoot, and optimize PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, and industrial control networks.
• Diagnose automation issues, reduce downtime, and improve equipment reliability.
• Support IT/OT network segmentation, operational cybersecurity, safety compliance, and electrical code requirements.
• Lead automation activities for system upgrades, production line installations, equipment integrations, and continuous improvement projects.
• Conduct control system lifecycle assessments, identify obsolete equipment and cybersecurity risks, and recommend replacement strategies.
• Coordinate vendors, contractors, maintenance, operations, and engineering teams while preparing documentation, reports, metrics, and training.

Requirements

• Unrestricted right to work for hirify.global in the United States.
• Bachelor of Science in Industrial Controls, Mechatronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• At least 4 years of controls or automation experience, preferably in manufacturing.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical problem-solving, organizational, communication, and collaboration skills.
• Ability to work in an industrial plant environment with regular exposure to production areas and equipment.
• Ability to stand, walk, sit, climb stairs, bend, kneel, and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.

Nice to have

• Experience in chemical manufacturing or a related industry.
• Experience with IT/OT integration and industrial cybersecurity initiatives.
• Experience leading automation-related capital or improvement projects.
• Vendor management and system integrator coordination experience.
