Automation and Controls Engineer (Aerospace)

Location: Redondo Beach, United States; onsite. U.S. ITAR eligibility is required: U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residence, protected individual status, or eligibility to obtain the necessary authorizations.

Salary: $105,000–$185,000 per year, plus potential stock options and benefits for full-time hires.

What you will do

• Own equipment design from concept and requirements through commissioning for R&D, test, and production.
• Create electrical and fluid-system schematics in EPlan according to applicable standards.
• Write, debug, and maintain scalable PLC software in TwinCAT using structured text.
• Program industrial controls hardware, including VFDs, motor starters, PLCs, motion systems, and robots.
• Select application-specific hardware and develop functional HMIs for diagnostics and troubleshooting.
• Work with end users, vendors, and manufacturers to deliver equipment that meets design intent.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering field.
• 2+ years of experience in manufacturing, testing, R&D, or a related field.
• Experience with PLC systems, industrial automation, and troubleshooting electrical and mechanical systems.
• Knowledge of industrial safety standards, including ISO 13849, ANSI B11, IEC 61508, UL508A, NFPA 70, or NFPA 79.
• Ability to work onsite in Redondo Beach and meet U.S. ITAR eligibility requirements.
• Flexible schedule and willingness to travel as needed.

Nice to have

• Experience with EPlan ProPanel and 3D control panel design.
• Familiarity with EtherCAT, Profinet, IO-Link, and other industrial protocols.
• Experience with hazard risk assessments and mitigation plans.
