Sr Engineer, Control Systems Engineer (Industrial Automation)

Location: Bedford, MA, United States; ability to travel 20% domestically and internationally for site evaluations and commissioning.

Salary: $89,500–$122,000 per year, plus annual bonus eligibility.

What you will do

• Provide technical leadership for advanced automation systems, OT hardware, instrumentation, control networks, and cybersecurity solutions.
• Lead capital projects from business justification through commissioning, qualification, validation, and acceptance testing.
• Design, deploy, debug, and optimize PLC logic, HMI/SCADA interfaces, instrumentation, and automation hardware and software.
• Implement connected manufacturing solutions including IIoT platforms, edge computing, industrial data infrastructure, historians, MES, AI/ML applications, and vision systems.
• Integrate production data across Controls, MES, ERP, and Business Systems teams to improve workflows, visibility, and real-time decision-making.
• Support production, lead root-cause analysis and corrective actions, and standardize automation architecture and engineering practices across global sites.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Electrical Engineering.
• At least 5 years of industrial automation and controls engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Expert-level proficiency in PLC programming, HMI/SCADA systems, variable frequency drives, and motion control.
• Experience managing capital and automation projects, including scope, schedule, budget, stakeholder communication, and outage planning.
• Knowledge of industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, DeviceNet, and Ethernet/IP, plus industrial instrumentation, electrical schematics, power distribution, and pneumatic controls.
• Working knowledge of safety systems and hazardous environments, with demonstrated troubleshooting and root-cause identification skills.

Nice to have

• Rockwell Studio 5000, FTLinx, PlantPAx, IEC 61131-3, and Ignition SCADA experience.
• Python, REST APIs, MQTT, OPC-UA, Critical Manufacturing MES, SQL, ODBC, and transactional data experience.
• Industrial networking with Stratix/Cisco switches and virtualization technologies.
• ISA-88, ISA-99, ISA-95, Microsoft Defender, application whitelisting, and Tenable-based OT security experience.
