DevOps Engineer (Bioinformatics)

Location: Atlanta, GA, United States. Work location, telework eligibility, and schedule will be determined by program and client needs. Legal authorization to work in the United States is required.

What you will do

• Administer GitLab environments, repositories, access controls, issue tracking, branching, merge requests, and change management.
• Develop, maintain, and troubleshoot CI/CD pipelines for scientific and custom-developed applications.
• Automate builds, testing, security scanning, packaging, deployments, and environment management.
• Build and maintain containerized applications using Docker and Singularity/Apptainer in Linux and HPC environments.
• Deploy and support scientific, bioinformatics, and computational workflows, including Nextflow and nf-core pipelines.
• Collaborate with bioinformatics, software, infrastructure, cybersecurity, HPC, and system administration teams while maintaining technical documentation.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or a related technical or scientific discipline; equivalent experience may be considered.
• Approximately 2+ years of relevant professional, internship, research, or technical experience in DevOps, software engineering, bioinformatics, scientific computing, HPC, systems, or infrastructure engineering.
• Experience with Git or GitLab, CI/CD pipelines, Linux-based computing environments, and containerization technologies such as Docker or Singularity/Apptainer.
• Programming or scripting experience with Python, Java, Perl, Ruby, Bash/Shell, or similar languages.
• Ability to troubleshoot software, application, development-environment, infrastructure, dependency, and deployment issues.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States and able to meet applicable background investigation, suitability, cybersecurity, privacy, and Government system-access requirements.

Nice to have

• Experience in bioinformatics, computational biology, NGS data, scientific software deployment, or HPC environments.
• Experience with Nextflow, nf-core, MicrobeTrace, MicroReact, Nextstrain, or Posit Connect.
• Experience with DevSecOps, Trivy, Snyk, container security, vulnerability remediation, automated testing, or application hardening.
• Experience supporting federal government, public health, healthcare, scientific research, or other regulated computing environments.
