Senior Engineer, Product Research & Development - Hard facing

Location: Hanover, Pennsylvania, USA. Relocation support is available for the right candidate. The role includes manufacturing, laboratory, and plant visits, domestic and international travel of up to 25%, and required PPE in applicable environments.

What you will do

• Lead research and development initiatives for new and enhanced hardfacing products, technologies, and processes.
• Plan and manage short- and long-term R&D programs using Stage-Gate, Design of Experiments, Gantt charts, and project management systems such as Planisware.
• Design and execute testing programs to evaluate product performance and validate compliance with specifications and standards.
• Maintain technical documentation covering formulations, processing methods, specifications, and product standards.
• Generate records for intellectual property activities and assist with patent documentation.
• Collaborate with Sales, Marketing, Product Management, Manufacturing, Sourcing, Quality, customers, and key accounts from concept through commercialization.

Requirements

• Master's degree or PhD in Metallurgical Engineering, Welding Engineering, or a related discipline.
• At least 5 years of progressive research and development experience, preferably in hardfacing filler metal product development.
• Strong knowledge of steel properties and their impact on welding and hardfacing performance.
• Ability to interpret technical specifications and design testing programs for product validation and compliance.
• Experience with the product development lifecycle and the ability to independently lead multiple technical projects.
• Strong communication, presentation, collaboration, and stakeholder-influencing skills.

Nice to have

• Experience developing hardfacing products, welding consumables, or related filler metal technologies.
• Experience with Stage-Gate methodologies, Design of Experiments, or Planisware.
• Experience supporting intellectual property development and patent documentation.
