Archeological Crew Chief

Location: Albuquerque, New Mexico, United States; full-time field position with travel and multi-week projects.

Salary: USD $23.00–$35.00 per hour, depending on experience, education, skills, geography, and other compensable factors.

What you will do

• Direct and manage field crews conducting archaeological surveys, testing, data recovery, and monitoring.
• Ensure the quality of archaeological data, fieldwork, and project documentation.
• Coordinate project requirements and expectations with project managers.
• Promote and enforce field safety, quality standards, policies, and procedures.
• Complete field and documentation tasks on schedule and support special projects.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in anthropology, archaeology, or a related discipline.
• At least 3 years of archaeological survey and/or excavation experience, including 1 year in a field supervisory role.
• Permittable in the New Mexico BLM Southeast Region and listed on the New Mexico SHPO Directory.
• Experience with digital field technologies such as GPS, Trimble, and Geode.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record, strong communication skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to travel, sometimes on short notice, and work in the field on multi-week projects.

Nice to have

• Permits or qualifications for additional regions.
• Archaeological report-writing experience.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office.
