Senior Life & Annuity Product Accountant

Location: Saint Paul, Minnesota campus, with a hybrid schedule for associates within a 90-minute commutable distance of the home office; virtual employment may be available for candidates outside the commuting distance.

Estimated base pay: $73,700–$136,800 annually.

What you will do

• Determine accounting treatment for individual life, annuity, and reinsurance products under statutory, GAAP, and Bermuda accounting bases.
• Prepare journal entries, reconciliations, financial statements, and supporting schedules for monthly and quarterly reporting.
• Validate accounting system results and develop procedures and controls supporting accurate financial reporting.
• Analyze financial results, profitability, capital efficiency, and business drivers across products and legal entities.
• Support audits, regulatory reviews, and communications with auditors, examiners, and rating agencies.
• Implement reporting process improvements and participate in strategic Securian Re initiatives, including future deals.

Requirements

• Accounting experience covering statutory, management-based, tax, and GAAP reporting and budgeting.
• Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Accounting, Finance, or Mathematics.
• Strong analytical skills for reviewing and analyzing financial statements.
• Ability to communicate and collaborate with finance, actuarial, business, audit, and other stakeholders.
• Excellent attention to detail.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of insurance accounting concepts and individual life and annuity products.
• Reinsurance accounting experience.
