TL;DR
Aircraft Mechanic III - Structures (Aerospace Structures): Assessing aircraft damage and designing and executing repairs for structural and composite components with an accent on depot-level metalworking, close-tolerance fastening, and structural integrity. Focus on fabricating replacement parts, performing flight-control weight and balance and rigging, and documenting maintenance in accordance with technical and quality requirements.

What you will do

  • Inspect aircraft structural components, assess damage, and develop repair or replacement procedures using applicable technical data.
  • Repair, replace, form, cut, bend, and fasten metal, composite, bonded honeycomb, fiberglass, tubing, cable, and plastic components.
  • Perform close-tolerance drilling and reaming and install high-strength fasteners in major aircraft structures.
  • Design and execute structural repairs, modifications, corrosion protection, flight-control weight and balance, and control-surface rigging.
  • Fabricate parts using jigs, fixtures, forms, and molds, and inspect completed repairs for serviceability.
  • Maintain accurate automated maintenance records, equipment records, quality documentation, tool control, safety compliance, and hazardous-material procedures.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 12+ years of relevant aircraft structural maintenance experience on fixed- or rotary-wing commercial, Government, or DoD aircraft.
  • 5+ years of depot-level structural maintenance experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of depot-level structural repair, aircraft construction, aerospace materials, corrosion control, and related tools and equipment.
  • Experience supporting DoD contracts and the ability to read engineering drawings, technical documentation, and maintenance procedures.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Government Security Clearance.

Nice to have

  • Air Force Specialty Code 2A773 experience.
  • FAA Airframe and/or Powerplant certification.
  • Multiple aviation qualifications or certifications and the ability to train others in these disciplines.
