Aviation Safety Officer

Location: Corpus Christi, Texas, United States. The role involves on-site aviation, facility, field, outdoor, and operational activities, with travel of up to 20%.

Salary: Up to $7,500 per month ($90,000 annually approximately).

What you will do

• Develop, administer, evaluate, and improve aviation, occupational safety, and environmental compliance programs for the Autonomy Research Institute.
• Provide technical guidance and safety oversight for aviation, UAS, research, testing, maintenance, field, and facility operations.
• Conduct inspections, audits, operational risk assessments, accident and incident investigations, and root-cause analyses.
• Develop and deliver safety orientations, recurring training, briefings, safety meetings, and stand-downs.
• Track hazards, corrective actions, safety records, inspections, incidents, and training requirements.
• Coordinate safety requirements with project managers, principal investigators, researchers, engineers, flight and maintenance personnel, sponsors, contractors, and regulatory agencies.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in aviation safety, occupational safety, environmental health, industrial hygiene, aviation management, or a related field.
• Seven years of relevant experience, or a related master’s degree with five years of experience.
• Experience with safety inspections, audits, hazard assessments, incident investigations, risk assessments, safety training, or corrective-action monitoring.
• Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, FAA, NTSB, state, local, university, and sponsor requirements.
• Knowledge of safety management systems, hazard identification, operational risk management, accident prevention, root-cause analysis, and corrective-action management.
• Valid driver’s license required; ability to travel up to 20%, lift up to 50 pounds, and work outdoors or in field environments.

Nice to have

• Experience with aircraft, UAS, occupational, or operational accident and incident investigations.
• Experience supporting UAS, flight operations, aviation maintenance, research testing, test ranges, or other safety-critical technical operations.
• Professional certifications such as CSP, CIH, ASP, an aviation safety certificate, or OSHA certification.
• Experience administering safety management systems or reviewing research protocols, test plans, mission plans, or sponsored-project safety requirements.
