Manager 3, Forward Deployed Engineering Team (AI)

Location: Mountain View, California, United States

Base salary: $244,000–$330,000 per year, with potential cash bonus, equity rewards, and benefits.

What you will do

• Hire, coach, and manage a team of Forward Deployed Engineers while setting technical standards and owning career growth and performance.
• Own technical direction, prioritization, engineering quality, and delivery outcomes across multiple concurrent customer engagements.
• Lead strategic deployments, technical evaluations, proof-of-value engagements, renewals, and expansion conversations with CFOs, Controllers, and IT leaders.
• Guide production implementations of agentic AI that automate accounting processes and strengthen internal controls.
• Partner with Sales, Customer Success, Product, and Core Engineering on delivery risk, roadmap feedback, SLAs, and customer escalations.
• Build implementation playbooks, expansion frameworks, reusable assets, and hiring and interview processes for the FDE organization.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in Forward Deployed Engineering, Solutions Engineering, Sales Engineering, technical consulting, or a comparable customer-embedded engineering role.
• 2+ years of direct engineering management experience, preferably in a customer-facing, field, or forward-deployed environment.
• Deep experience with REST APIs, GraphQL, webhooks, SQL, enterprise integrations, and production deployments.
• Deep experience with agentic AI, including LangChain, LangGraph, MCP servers, multi-agent systems, RAG, vector stores, and hybrid retrieval.
• Experience with LLMs and tooling such as OpenAI, Gemini, Anthropic, GitHub Copilot, Gemini Code Assist, and prompt engineering.
• Ability to lead concurrent technical deployments, manage executive escalations, and collaborate with Sales, Product, and Core Engineering under delivery and revenue pressure.

Nice to have

• Experience managing a field or forward-deployed engineering team.
• Experience in accounting, ERP, fintech, SaaS, applied AI, or related enterprise domains.
• Experience deploying AI agents in production or working on customer-site deployments lasting multiple months.
• Experience creating interview loops, leveling rubrics, or playbooks for technical field engineering.
