Risk Control Technical Consultant Construction Safety (Construction Safety)

Location: Houston, Texas, United States; requires a consistent field presence with approximately 20%–50% onsite customer work and long-distance or overnight travel as needed.

Annual base salary: $94,400–$155,800, plus eligibility for performance-based cash incentives.

What you will do

• Provide underwriters with account knowledge about hazards, controls, management practices, and inherent risk factors.
• Partner with Underwriting to select, retain, and grow a profitable book of business.
• Evaluate moderate- to highly complex construction, inland marine, energy, property, and fleet exposures, including multi-location accounts and risks with potential for severe losses.
• Complete field risk assessments and write technically detailed reports with clear recommendations.
• Identify uncontrolled exposures and influence customers to implement corrective actions and loss-mitigation improvements.
• Collaborate with Underwriting, Claims, Risk Control Specialists, and Brokers to deliver customer risk-control services.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or graduate degree in environmental health and safety, engineering, construction management, basic sciences, or a related technical field.
• At least five years of experience in safety, risk control or management, occupational or environmental health and safety, science, engineering, construction, manufacturing, or relevant military work.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Must have or be able to attain certifications required by applicable state-specific regulations.
• Strong knowledge of the insurance industry, business acumen, critical thinking, communication, negotiation, influencing, and relationship-building skills.
• Recognized certifications such as ASP, CSP, ARM, or CFPS are relevant to the role.
