Staff Engineer - Transfer Switch (Mechanical/Electrical Engineering)

Location: Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA; onsite engineering role with regular standing and walking, occasional lifting up to 25 pounds, and occasional travel.

What you will do

• Design, validate, and bring new transfer switch products to market from concept through mass production.
• Define functional requirements and design, test, and integrate complex mechanical and electrical components.
• Evaluate product effectiveness, cost, reliability, risk, and safety.
• Create and execute fitness-for-use testing, product specifications, process validation plans, material specifications, and bills of materials.
• Use CAD and CAE systems to model designs and produce detailed engineering drawings.
• Collaborate with manufacturing, contract manufacturers, designers, product specialists, quality, sourcing, and other cross-functional partners; mentor less experienced engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• 7+ years of relevant engineering experience.
• Experience with new product design and development, manufacturing production support, and complex engineering problem-solving.
• Mechanism design experience, including gear trains, over-center toggles, linear actuators, multi-bar linkages, and cams.
• Experience with mechanical and electrical components, materials such as plastics, aluminum castings, and sheet metal, and analysis methods including hand calculations, FEA, and CFD.
• Strong 3D modeling skills with ProE or SolidWorks; experience with MS Excel, MS Word, SAP or an equivalent ERP, and UL 1008.
