TL;DR
Senior Lighting Artist (Call of Duty): Creating and implementing real-time lighting for gameplay environments and cinematics with an accent on composition, color, volumetrics, and visual storytelling. Focus on owning lighting from first pass through final polish, solving technical and creative challenges, and optimizing performance and quality for AAA game development.

Location: Middleton, Wisconsin, United States; onsite four days per week

Salary: $82,240–$152,160 annual base pay, plus potential incentive compensation.

What you will do

  • Create and implement real-time lighting for gameplay, environments, play spaces, and cinematics.
  • Use volumetrics, color grading, image effects, and physically grounded lighting to support visual and narrative goals.
  • Own lighting development from first pass through final polish while meeting AAA visual and technical standards.
  • Collaborate with the Lighting Lead, Art Director, artists, designers, programmers, and other disciplines.
  • Contribute to lighting R&D, tools, workflows, performance optimization, and production best practices.
  • Mentor artists, estimate milestone scope, and provide creative direction and execution support.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of lighting experience in real-time game development or equivalent film/television experience.
  • Expert experience with Unreal, Unity, or equivalent proprietary game engines and lighting tools.
  • Strong experience with baked and dynamic lighting, light probes, reflection probes, post-processing, color grading, and image adjustment tools.
  • Strong understanding of PBR workflows, physically correct lighting, color theory, post-processing techniques, and current lighting trends.
  • Ability to work independently, solve technical and creative problems, communicate effectively, and collaborate across disciplines.
  • An inspiring reel demonstrating realistic lighting, modern workflows, and creative solutions.

Nice to have

  • Experience with Call of Duty tools or other proprietary engines.
  • Secondary experience in environments, animation, or VFX.
  • Basic scripting, procedural workflows, Houdini, compositing, or console and PC performance optimization experience.
  • Strong traditional art foundation and passion for the Call of Duty franchise.
