Safety Director (Utility Construction)

Location: Lanham, MD; Lathem, NY; Commerce City, CO; remote option available for well-qualified candidates. The role is primarily office-based with occasional field visits to distribution facilities and job sites, including regular travel and overnight stays as needed.

Salary: $150,000–$160,000 per year.

What you will do

• Organize, coordinate, and maintain health, safety, and training activities for the operating area.
• Direct Safety Managers and Representatives and collaborate with other Safety Directors.
• Ensure work areas and equipment comply with company, state, and federal safety policies and regulations.
• Conduct safety orientations, training sessions, accident investigations, and injury or illness case management.
• Lead accident prevention initiatives and recommend improvements to safety procedures and daily work practices.
• Support operating-area management and chair the Operating Area Safety Committee.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of experience in the utility field and 5–8 years of construction safety experience.
• Knowledge of OSHA, DOT, and EPA laws and regulations.
• Bachelor’s degree and a current valid driver’s license.
• Strong supervisory, management, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
• Ability to travel regularly, work overnight stays and additional hours or weekends when required, and visit outdoor job sites.

Nice to have

• CSP or CUSP certification.
• Recognized safety certification.
• Master’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety.
• Spanish bilingual skills.
