Industrial Hygiene Specialist (Chemical Industry)

Location: Wilmington, Delaware, United States; travel to various worksites up to 30%

Salary: $110,544–$172,725 annually; annual bonus target of 11%

What you will do

• Provide industrial hygiene expertise, occupational health programs, best practices, and risk mitigation guidance to sites and operational teams.
• Design and implement engineering controls, administrative controls, and personal protective equipment programs with management, engineering, and operations.
• Develop and maintain EHS standards, training, and guidance covering exposure assessment, heat stress, ergonomics, respiratory protection, chemical protective clothing, radiation, and indoor air quality.
• Support chemical registration, new product development, regulatory interactions, customer and toll-manufacturer activities, and compliance with OSHA, EPA, and EU requirements.
• Collect and analyze exposure, safety, and KPI data; develop dashboards, identify trends, and launch targeted prevention programs.
• Lead or support site audits, training, exposure assessments, incident investigations, and enterprise-wide continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in occupational health, industrial hygiene, science, or a related engineering field.
• 7+ years of relevant experience in a chemical, petrochemical, or related industrial environment.
• Knowledge of respiratory protection, chemical protective equipment, ventilation, hazard communication, ergonomics, hearing conservation, and radiation safety.
• Experience with risk assessments, risk mitigation strategies, air sampling, noise monitoring, and specialized exposure testing.
• Ability to interpret complex OSHA, EPA, and EU regulations and collaborate with technical, operational, and regulatory stakeholders.
• Strong data analysis, dashboard development, strategic consulting, change leadership, communication, and project management skills.

Nice to have

• Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) certification from an accredited institution.
• Experience managing programs in global operations or across multiple manufacturing facilities.
• Experience with RC14001, OHSAS18001, ISO14001, ISO45001, or similar EHS management systems.
