Senior Building Inspector

Location: Foster City, California; candidates must live locally or within the State of California. On-site work with travel to client and job sites; no relocation expenses are provided.

Salary: $43–$60 USD per hour.

What you will do

• Perform field inspections of industrial, commercial, and residential buildings during construction, remodeling, and repair.
• Evaluate compliance with approved plans, specifications, building codes, and state and local regulations.
• Handle difficult inspections, enforcement issues, complaints, and public relations problems.
• Supervise, assign, train, and evaluate building inspectors and provide guidance on inspection procedures and code interpretation.
• Check construction methods and material quality, identify deviations, and confer with contractors and builders to resolve violations.
• Provide plan-checking services for minor residential, commercial, and industrial projects.

Requirements

• ICC Combination Building Inspector certification for residential and commercial work is required.
• Five or more years of experience as a Building Inspector II or equivalent; 10 or more years of building inspection experience is preferred.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
• Valid Class C California driver's license and satisfactory driving record are required.
• Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor inspections, travel to job sites, and work in elevated, noisy, dark, and varied weather conditions.

Nice to have

• ICC Residential Plans Examiner or ICC Commercial Building Examiner certification.
