Certified Welding Inspector (AWS-CWI)

Location: San Jose, California, USA; travel to regional project sites as needed

Salary: $50–$60 per hour, depending on qualifications

What you will do

• Perform shop and field inspections of structural steel welding and bolting activities.
• Verify compliance with approved plans, specifications, AWS standards, and applicable building codes.
• Review welding procedures, welder qualifications, inspection requirements, and structural drawings.
• Coordinate and review nondestructive testing activities and results.
• Prepare daily reports, inspection documentation, project records, field notes, correspondence, and RFIs.
• Communicate findings to project managers, contractors, engineers, and client representatives; document non-conforming work and verify corrective actions.

Requirements

• Current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification required.
• At least 3 years of experience in construction quality assurance, welding inspection, special inspections, or related construction services.
• Thorough knowledge of structural steel welding, bolting, AWS codes and standards, and applicable building codes.
• Ability to read and interpret structural drawings, shop drawings, specifications, and code requirements.
• Strong attention to detail, communication, organizational, and documentation skills.
• Willingness and ability to travel, a valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record, and ability to complete background screening and drug testing when applicable.

Nice to have

• ICC Reinforced Concrete Special Inspector Certification.
• NDT certifications such as MT, PT, RT, VT, or other Level II/III certifications.
• ICC Structural Steel and Bolting or Structural Steel Welding Special Inspector certification.
• Experience with large commercial, industrial, infrastructure, or public works projects.
